LYMAN ALLYN PRESENTS ONE-WOMAN SHOW ABOUT HARRIET TUBMAN
NEW LONDON – The Lyman Allyn Art Museum invites the public to attend a live performance of Harriet Tubman: A Woman with a Railroad by New London resident Adwoa Bandele-Asante on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. This program, part of the Museum’s Free First Saturday programming, is free and open to all.
This inspirational one-woman show, written and performed by Bandele-Asante, tells the story of Tubman’s struggle for freedom from slavery and inclusion as an American citizen. The play focuses on how Tubman used diligence, common sense, and her strong faith to help slaves escape slavery. Registration to the program is recommended but not required. The New London native earned a bachelor’s degree from Connecticut College and a master’s from Howard University. While teaching high school, Bandele-Asante founded the Back to Africa Club, which enabled her to travel to West Africa. Her studies of Tubman’s life span from her birthplace in Dorchester County, Maryland, to her final resting place in Auburn, New York. Bandele-Asante runs educational programs through P.E.A.C.E. Works Group, LLC in New London.

About the Lyman Allyn Art Museum
The Lyman Allyn Art Museum welcomes visitors from New London, southeastern Connecticut and all over the world. Established in 1926 with a gift from Harriet Allyn in memory of her seafaring father, the Museum opened the doors of its beautiful neoclassical building surrounded by 12 acres of green space in 1932. Today it presents several changing exhibitions each year and houses a fascinating collection of over 17,000 objects from ancient times to the present, including art from Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe, with particularly strong collections of American paintings, decorative arts and Victorian toys and doll houses.
