APRIL VACATION WORKSHOPS AT THE LYMAN ALLYN ART MUSEUM
New London – The Lyman Allyn Art Museum is offering April vacation week art workshops that provide a hands-on experience for children ages 6-10. All workshops include a guided eye-spy tour of the Museum’s permanent and temporary galleries. Afterwards, participants will visit the studio for a creative art project.
Art Workshops
- 3-DJumbo Butterfly Workshop
Wednesday, April 12 (10:30-12:00)
$13 per child members/$15 per child non-members
Participants will explore the symmetry and colors of different butterfly species and then construct and paint their own jumbo butterfly.
- Suncatcher Workshop
Thursday, April 13(10:30-12:00)
$13 per child members/$15 per child non-members
Participants will use glass stain to design and paint their own suncatcher. Then, using crystals, beads, and other glass objects, participants will weave light and color into their piece.
- Papier-mâché Hot Air Balloon Workshop
Friday, April 14(10:30-12:00)
$13 per child members/$15 per child non-members
Participants will study the art of papier-mâché, or “chewed paper,” as they build and decorate their own hot air balloon sculptures.

About the Lyman Allyn Art Museum
The Lyman Allyn Art Museum welcomes visitors from New London, southeastern Connecticut and all over the world. Established in 1926 by a gift from Harriet Allyn in memory of her seafaring father, the Museum opened the doors of its beautiful neo-classical building surrounded by 12 acres of green space in 1932. Today it presents a number of changing exhibitions each year and houses a fascinating collection of over 17,000 objects from ancient times to the present; artworks from Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe, with particularly strong collections of American paintings, decorative arts and Victorian toys and doll houses.
The museum is located at 625 Williams Street, New London, Connecticut, exit 83 off I-95. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, Sundays 1:00 – 5:00 pm; closed Mondays and major holidays.
