Peace Pole Unveiling and Panel: Art, Race, Peace and Social Justice

Join the Rotary Club of New London for the 2024 International Day of Peace. Attend the unveiling of the multilingual Peace Pole at 3 pm in the Lyman Allyn’s Hendel Library, then learn from a panel discussion on art, race, peace, and social justice at 4 pm.

Moderated by Prof. Julia Kushigian with artist Marvin Espy, Prof. Amanda Russhell Wallace, and Prof. Sufia Uddin, panel speakers will reflect on the power of art to address the underlying causes of conflict, poverty, discrimination, and access to counteract these problems while promoting social justice and understanding.  They will explore points of overlap where art meets intractable social issues to promote healing.

The panel is presented in collaboration with Marvin Espy’s exhibition, Up from Asphalt, at the Lyman Allyn through October 20, 2024.
